Everton v Nottingham Forest: Sky pundit stunned by ‘Unbelievable’ footage he saw

Michael Dawson was left stunned by Chris Wood’s opening goal for Nottingham Forest in their Premier League clash against Everton on Sunday.

The attacker played a one-two with Anthony Elanga on the edge of the Toffees’ box and then dinked the ball just over the head of Jordan Pickford, who came off his line to try and stop the attack.

The game ended 2-0 and saw Forest leave Goodison Park with three points to add to their overall tally.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (29 December, 15:17pm), Sky pundit Dawson shared his thoughts on Woods’ opener.

“It’s an unbelievable goal,” he said. “Morgan Gibbs-White picks up the ball in his own half, Chris Wood pulls off the shoulder of Tarkowski he plays this long, 60-yard pass, [it’s a] little bit too high for Chris Wood so he heads it to Elanga, Elanga heads it back to him and he just lobs it up over Jordan Pickford, it’s unbelievable. Brilliant finish, what a goal this is”.

Everton need to shore up their defensive line again

Over the last month or so, the Merseyside outfit have been lauded by many due to the solid defensive work they’ve put in.

However, in their game against Forest on Sunday, it felt like they were on the back foot for most of the clash and even though Wood is in some fine form this term, they still should have done better.

James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite have managed to reform their solid centre-back partnership from last season and although they weren’t at the races on 29 December, they can’t be solely to blame for the opening goal.

Indeed, it may seem harsh to say that they need to shore up their defensive line but if mistakes or poor performances like this become a regular occurrence, they could find themselves scrapping for top-flight survival once again.

Only time will tell what the future holds but for now, Dyche might have to tell his defensive line to go back to square one and figure out where things went wrong against Forest.
