Everton star should have been sent off after incident v Nottingham Forest

Everton defender James Tarkowski was lucky not be sent off in the 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Keith Hackett has said.

The former Burnley defender fouled Chris Wood in the 45th minute of the contest at Goodison Park on 29 December when already on a booking.

Hackett, a former FIFA referee and PGMOL chief believes that he should have received a second yellow card after already being booked earlier in the first half for a foul on Ramon Sosa.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “That’s a yellow card.

He should have gone for that.”

James Tarkowski should have seen red card for Everton

The Blues were lucky not to be reduced to ten men after the poor challenge from Tarkowski in the defeat when already on a yellow card.

The veteran should know better than to make a risky tackle having been cautioned already, silly individual mistakes like that could drag the Toffees back into a brutal relegation battle.

The 32-year-old is a key figure at the heart of Sean Dyche’s backline having formed a solid partnership with Jarrad Branthwaite.

The duo has helped the Goodison Park club keep seven clean sheets in 12 matches, the most in Europe’s top-five leagues since 1 October.

The Toffees will be counting their blessings that Tarkowski is not banned for their next league match, the trip to Bournemouth on 4 January.

A victory could be crucial as Dyche tries to put some distance between his side and the drop zone and extend the three-point gap that they currently have.

In other Everton news, a shocking stat has emerged after the Forest loss that could force the Friedkin Group to sack Dyche.
