Neal Maupay controversy: Tony Bellew blasts ‘Weasel’ Everton loanee

Tony Bellew has lambasted Neal Maupay live on talkSPORT, calling the Everton loanee a “weasel” following his latest antics.

Maupay incurred the wrath of Toffees fans once again with his latest social media post on X [29 December], mocking his parent club after their 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Former champion boxer and avid Everton fan Bellew took to talkSPORT [30 December, 14:39] to voice his unfiltered thoughts on the Frenchman.

“It’s not the nicest thing to be done by a player on the payroll,” he began.

“You don’t hear a murmur out of the little squeak, that little weasel, when we’re doing well. It’s very sad, he’s an attention seeker.”

He then directly addressed Maupay: “While you were at Everton, the last thing you did was play football. You were useless.”

Neal Maupay winds up Everton yet again

Neal Maupay, taking a cheap shot at Everton? Surely not. He revels in it – it has given him more of a name than his football career at this stage.

The 28-year-old is currently at Marseille but it’s easy to forget he remains on the books at Goodison Park, having dashed away on loan late in the summer window.

Maupay only scored one goal at Goodison and was seldom rated by the Gwladys Street faithful, which gives some context to his bitterness towards the club who ended up becoming exasperated with him.

The striker has so far doubled his total Toffees tally for Marseille, firing two in 12 games in all competitions this season; by contrast, Iliman Ndiaye came the other way in an unrelated deal and has been a revelation for Sean Dyche in a team lacking attacking edge.

Bellew’s thoughts were always going to be box office and reflect that of the wide fanbase; Maupay has certainly long burnt his bridges with his parent side and one wouldn’t back him to make an appearance in blue at Bramley-Moore Dock.
