Sean Dyche sack: TFG to dismiss Everton manager soon after Goodison development

Sean Dyche is running out of time to keep his job at Everton, according to The Esk.

Writing via his blog on 31 December, Paul Quinn, who’s an expert on Everton’s finances and has done in-depth research on new owners TFG, believes that the Friedkins’ previous decisions at Roma have led him to believe that Dyche’s poor results won’t be tolerated much longer.

The Blues lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park on Sunday (29 December), meaning they end 2024 16th in the Premier League with just three wins and 15 goals from 18 games.

Writing via his blog on 31 December, The Esk said: “Does keeping Dyche as manager or coach, and his team of tacticians, specialist coaches, sports scientists and medical staff offer enough certainty to leave the change until perhaps the summer?

“The evidence for this is limited at the very least. Even putting aside the aesthetics of several more months of Dycheball, can, given the evidence, performances and results presented in recent times, the Friedkins have sufficient confidence in Dyche to dig deep once more and maintain our status? Seven goalless games in the last nine, three wins in 18 league games is a material dip in even Dyche’s just about adequate career averages

“From my perspective, there’s nothing in Dyche’s demeanour, the response of the players, and the absence of affirmative or supportive action by the Friedkins to suggest he and they believe so. And it’s on this basis I believe the Friedkins will act quickly in changing manager. Certainly, the evidence of their time at Roma (not without raising questions it must be said) is that they move fast, cutting losses quickly.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche?

Based on the Toffees’ current run of form and TFG’s tendency to make quickfire decisions, it won’t be a shock to see him suffer the same fate as his two predecessors in being sacked in January.

Farhad Moshiri got rid of Rafa Benitez in January 2022 and Frank Lampard in January 2023 before hiring Dyche at the end of that month.

The former Burnley boss has been at Goodison for almost two years now but he might not get to that milestone unless results improve.

Everton have won just one of their last 10 Premier League matches and have only scored once in their last four.

However, in fairness to Dyche and his players, their last four games have been against Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

They earned brilliant draws with the first three before their dismal defeat to Forest on Sunday. That win for the Reds, though, put them second in the table so it wasn’t exactly a result to scoff at.

Everyone knew Everton were in for a tough December. They played four of the so-called big-six, lost to high-flying Forest and battered Wolves 4-0.

If Dyche is to go based on these results, it would be unfair.

However, he still has tough fixtures on the horizon with Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Brighton all facing the Blues in January.
