Sean Dyche shares honest Neal Maupay verdict after Everton comments

Sean Dyche says he is focusing on the bigger picture at Everton after comments made by Neal Maupay after the loss at Nottingham Forest.

After the 2-0 defeat on Sunday (29 December), Maupay poked fun at his parent club by posting on X about the joy he feels seeing the Blues lose.

The comments have caused a stir given the striker is still technically employed by the Toffees, despite being on loan at Marseille.

However, Dyche isn’t worried about what was said as he commented in his pre-match press conference [via Sky Sports Premier League]: “I think it’s fair to say there’s a bigger picture at Everton Football Club that I’m focusing on.

“I don’t think I need to be worrying about his comments.”

When asked if Everton would be taking any disciplinary action, the boss replied: “No, I don’t think we’ll be worried about that.

“No, I don’t think we’ll be worrying about any of that.”

Neal Maupay burned his bridges at Everton

Maupay is well known for being a wind-up on social media and it is not the first time he has taken a dig at his club online.

However, the comments following the Forest defeat were a bit out of the blue and certainly caused a stir online with outrage over his behaviour.

The striker has joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal, with the French club having an obligation to buy in the summer, so it’s understandable to see Dyche eager not to get involved in giving the 28-year-old any further attention.

Furthermore, it is his loan club that are paying the striker’s wages this term so there is little the Toffees can do in terms of punishing the player for his actions.

As the boss acknowledges, there is plenty of work to be done at Goodison Park in the second half of the season and that needs to be the focus for the club rather than the comments of someone who will soon have cut all ties with the Blues.
