Micah Richards reacts to Everton controversy – ‘It’s so disrespectful but…’
Micah Richards could hardly control his laughter when discussing what Neal Maupay said about Everton on social media.
The 28-year-old mocked the Blues via X (29 December) after the 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest despite still being contracted at Goodison Park.
While Sean Dyche ultimately dismissed Maupay’s antics when posed with the question in his latest pre-match press conference, the post has caused quite an uproar from Evertonians.
Richards, however, chose to see the funny side when discussing the incident with co-hosts Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on The Rest is Football (3 January, 18:05) and shared that he even admires the Everton loanee for it.
He said: “How can he be doing that? It’s so disrespectful but for him to have the balls to do it, I quite admire it also.”
Neal Maupay is finished at Everton
The Frenchman will undoubtedly have a blossoming career as a social media influencer when he eventually decides to hang up his boots.
Maupay only managed one goal return in 31 outings across all competitions for Everton, and while he is doing much better on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1, it wouldn’t take much to improve on his Premier League form.
While famous Evertonian and former professional boxer Tony Bellew did not take kindly to the troll, labelling Maupay a “weasel”, it is best to take his words with a pinch of salt.
The Blues were all too aware of his eccentric antics both on and off the pitch, and after his relationship with the Merseyside outfit soured, directing his attention at his parent club was inevitable.

Maupay lives for interactions on social media and clearly enjoys stewing in the fume of his targets rather than focusing on his career as a professional footballer.
Evertonians who are still raging from the X post should take leave out of Richards’ book, see the funny side and move on – Marseille have an obligation to purchase the forward at the end of his loan spell – so why bother getting wound up?
