Everton transfers: Flamengo stance emerges amid new Wesley development
Flamengo are aware of the interest shown in Everton target Wesley and are playing hardball to sell him, according to Globo.
The news outlet reported on 4 January that the Toffees are willing to offer around £16.5million for the 21-year-old but the Brazilian club will not agree to sell him for that.
It is also understood that they prefer selling the Brazilian right-back after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Everton must end their pursuit of Wesley right away
Flamengo’s stance on Wesley should serve as a clear signal for the Toffees to reconsider their pursuit and redirect their focus towards other potential signings.
At 21, the Brazilian is indeed young and while he shows promise, he remains unproven in the European football landscape, which inherently carries a significant risk.
Everton’s willingness to offer £16.5million for a player with no European experience is ambitious, but Flamengo’s reluctance to sell him for that amount is actually a blessing in disguise.
The Toffees should leverage this opportunity to explore other options, ideally targeting players with some European experience or proven potential, to mitigate the risk and ensure a more immediate impact on the team’s performance.
Hopefully, they have alternatives in mind as Nathan Patterson is linked with an exit and Seamus Coleman and Ashely Young may both leave at the end of the season. [Graeme Bailey, 30 October]

The Friedkin Group have to prioritise building for the future and these are decisions that need to be made.
