Armando Broja injury update emerges before Everton game v Peterborough

Armando Broja could be out for a week after suffering from a minor back injury in the clash between Everton and Bournemouth, according to Simon Johnson.

The striker was forced off in the first half of the game on Saturday (4 January) through injury, having only recently returned from a long-term lay-off.

With an FA Cup tie against Peterborough United up next for the Toffees, Sean Dyche’s side will have some respite before continuing their quest to stay in the Premier League this term.

The Blues will be relieved that Broja’s injury is not set to cause any harm as long term as the Athletic journalist Johnson posted on X to report: “Some positive news for Armando Broja after going off injured in first half of Everton’s game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

“Suffered a minor back injury and after being examined yesterday, expectation is he will soon be available to play again. Could be out for just a week.”

Armando Broja could be what Everton need

Since joining the Toffees on loan from Chelsea in the summer, life at Goodison Park has been tough for Broja so far with injury keeping him out for the majority of the campaign, with just five appearances under his belt.

With that in mind, to see the 23-year-old have to be taken off in the first half against Bournemouth would have been a worry for many inside the stadium both in the crowd and on the touchline.

Therefore, the update that he is not set for a long period out will be welcome news, especially as the boss looks to save his side from relegation with the Blues just one point above the drop zone.

The Merseyside outfit have been seriously lacking in front of goal this term and if Broja can stay fit, he could prove to be the refresh that is needed upfront with the team knowing more goals are essential to stay in the top flight.

The FA Cup clash against Peterborough won’t be a key focus for the Blues but it’s positive that the 23-year-old could be available again for his side’s next Premier League game against Aston Villa on 15 January.

If the striker is going to have an impact on his club’s fate in the second half of the season, it will be essential to manage the recovery of the player properly to get the best out of him.
