Everton early team news v Peterborough: Dyche confirms five out

Sean Dyche has confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss the FA Cup clash against Peterborough on Thursday with five players definitely missing.

The striker has been under plenty of scrutiny this term due to his goal-scoring form but will still no doubt be a miss for their FA Cup clash.

Armando Broja is also a doubt, while Youssef Chermiti has sustained another injury that will keep him out for “weeks”.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (7 January) Dyche shared that the striker will not be ready to feature: “Youssef is going to be out for a while, longer than we’d hoped but it’s not going to be days, that one will be weeks.

“Armando has a chance, he’s settled down a bit today, been out on the grass and we’ll have to see how that reacts.”

Later in the press conference he also shared an update on the availability of Calvert-Lewin and Dwight McNeil.

“Dwight won’t make it this week so we’re waiting on more news for that, it seems to be taking it’s time to settle,” he added.

“Dom has reported an ankle problem today so we’re going to have to deal with that as well.”

James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam are both also set to miss out with their ongoing issues.

Everton need a win against Peterborough on Thursday

This season, things haven’t gone quite to plan for Dyche and his men, the Toffees currently sit 16th in the Premier League and only have one point between themselves and the bottom three spots.

While a lot of their misfortune is likely down to the lack of form that their strikers have shown this season, it still feels like more could be coming from the rest of the squad too.

For the last couple of seasons, things have been tough in the Blue half of Merseyside with things such as point deductions and PSR worries hanging over their heads for most of their recent campaigns.

While they’re highly unlikely to end up winning the trophy, to get a bit further into the cup will no doubt be on top of their priority list.

Only time will tell what the future holds but with Calvert-Lewin now out, things will no doubt be a bit tougher.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are in “serious trouble” after what Jordan Pickford has done.
