Graham Potter appointment: Friedkin development as Everton job tempts

Graham Potter could be tempted by the Everton job after the recent takeover of The Friedkin Group, according to the Independent.

Miguel Delaney reported on 7 January that as he weighs up whether or not to replace the soon-to-be-sacked Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, Potter is intrigued by developments on Merseyside.

Sean Dyche remains in post at Goodison Park and was present at Finch Farm on Tuesday for training and a pre-match press conference, but his sacking is possible as the Blues slip towards the bottom three.

Dan Friedkin completed his takeover of the Toffees on 19 December and had been expected to stick by Dyche for now [Paul Brown, 5 January], but with their new stadium move on the horizon, TFG are rethinking their position.

Graham Potter the perfect fit for new era at Everton

If Potter does hold off on accepting the West Ham job having held talks with the East London club, there may be few better managers to take the new-look Blues into the future under Friedkin.

With Dyche out of contract this summer regardless – and that coinciding with the Toffees’ relocation to Bramley-Moore Dock – few fans expect the 53-year-old to continue after the end of the season.

However, Friedkin’s takeover and the worrying results of Dyche’s side could force the new owners to fast-track their decision on his future, with sections of the fanbase having long made their minds up.

Bringing Potter in to replace Dyche in the summer would have been seen as the perfect transition to set the Blues up for their new era, but many supporters are prepared to see that change as soon as possible.

Potter is hardly a stranger to Premier League relegation battles having twice kept Brighton in the top flight, but with the Blues sat 16th and a point above the drop zone, he’ll need to hit the ground running.
