Sean Dyche sack: Everton boss shares update on future

Sean Dyche has said he understands the need for succession planning at Everton but remained tight-lipped about whether an exit is on the cards.

Pressure has continued to mount on the 53-year-old as the Toffees find themselves sitting just one point above the relegation zone.

The sacking of Dyche looks to be on the cards with both Graham Potter (The Independent, 7 January) and Gareth Southgate (TEAMtalk, 7 January) being lined up as potential replacements.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference for Thursday’s (9 January) FA Cup clash with Peterborough United, as quoted via the Liverpool Echo), when asked about his future Dyche said: “To be clear it should be, at the end of the day if you are a business of this size then succession planning should be part of your diligence.

“We need to win more games. I know the industry I am in.”

The Liverpool Echo went on to report that Dyche is unclear whether The Friedkin Group have spoken to any potential replacements but succession planning is to be expected in business.

Sean Dyche running out of time at Everton

Although Everton have had a tough season, hindered by off the pitch factors, there is no excuse for how poor the Toffees have been at times and the position they find themselves in.

The Toffees currently sit just one point above the relegation zone and have faced two back-to-back defeats leaving them winless in five games.

Furthermore, with reports that West Ham are eyeing up Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui in East London, this could force Everton’s hand to ensure they make the move on Potter first.

Change is needed at Goodison Park sooner rather than later and with the January transfer window upon us, the appropriate additions to the squad will need to be made to reflect the person in charge.

While Dyche has expressed his desire to carry on with the Toffees and improve things at Goodison, his admission about succession planning from TFG suggests that he knows his time is up and it is only a matter of time until a change is made.

In other Everton news, one player is surely edging closer to an exit from Goodison Park after recent developments.
