David Moyes return: Alex Crook tells Alan Brazil what he’s heard at Everton
Alex Crook told Alan Brazil that David Moyes would be a potential candidate for the Everton job if they opt to sack Sean Dyche.
Dyche has been under some serious pressure for several weeks now with the Toffees struggling to show any signs of progression under his stewardship leading to concerns over his future.
Graham Potter had been sounded out as a potential replacement but his appointment at West Ham appears imminent [Jacob Steinberg] with Crook explaining live on talkSPORT [8 January, 8:40 am] that Moyes is a potential candidate to return to the club.
Crook said in response to Brazil’s claims of Moyes being a good fit: “Yeah, I could see that. In fact, it’s been mentioned to me for a few weeks now that David Moyes would be a potential candidate.
“I think the Everton situation is fascinating because they’ve got new owners who don’t necessarily want to come in and make a change straight away, but I think they’re evaluating the football club.
“Dyche is out of contract at the end of the season, so is the sporting director Kevin Thelwell. They’ve got a dozen players whose contracts are coming to an end as well, so the summer would seem to be a good time to make sweeping changes really in preparation for a move to that end if it’s a new team as well.”
Would David Moyes be a good fit for Everton?
Moyes is certainly most known for the job he oversaw in his previous spell at Everton, which ultimately brought its fair amount of success but his jobs since have left little to be desired.
Aside from a decent spell at West Ham, which ultimately ended in his sacking, the Scotsman hasn’t achieved much as a manager and many would perceive his appointment as a sideways step if Dyche was to depart.
Everton, under their fresh new ownership, need a man with bright ideas capable of taking them to the next level and there are certainly question marks over Moyes’ credibility to fit that bill.

Potter would have been an excellent appointment given the role he played in Brighton’s rise but that ship appears to have sailed with an appointment imminent at the London Stadium and it begs the question as to where they go from here.
Moyes, granted, would be somewhat of an improvement on Dyche but it just feels like the Toffees should have higher ambitions.
