Everton cannot afford to take Beto risk in January transfer window
Everton have had a poor season so far and find themselves in a dangerous position sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone.
With this in mind, the January transfer window could be a key point in the Toffees’ season and there is pressure for the right business to be done.
One area where the Blues have been lacking this term is in front of goal with strikers Beto, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja having scored three goals between them this season.
As a result, it’s not a surprise to see both Beto and Calvert-Lewin linked with moves away during the January transfer window.
According to Giacomo Morandin (6 January), Beto has had conversations with Torino about a potential move away from Merseyside with links to Juventus and Roma also previously mentioned [Quotidiano Sportivo, 14 October].
Everton need to be shrewd in their January business
While offloading Beto, a striker with just one goal from 12 appearances this term, seems like a simple decision for the Toffees, the risks of an exit could outweigh the benefits.
As it stands, Broja has made just five Premier League appearances this season due to suffering with injuries and has already suffered another setback after having gone off injured in the first half against Bournemouth on Saturday (4 January).
Therefore, a striker departure would leave the Blues very light in their forward options which, for a team that needs goals, is extremely short-sighted.

In addition to this, while the 26-year-old has been mentioned in regard to a loan-to-buy deal, it would only be truly beneficial for the Blues if they offloaded the striker permanently at this stage otherwise any money to reinvest would be tighter.
Given Calvert-Lewin is out of contract this summer while Beto’s contract runs until 2027, if one striker is going to be offloaded in January, it would surely make sense for it to be this way round.
If the Toffees are going to save themselves the last thing they need is to lose players in the position where they are most lacking, without being able to replace them in the side.
