Philogene transfer: Medical booked after Everton bid – Fabrizio Romano
Everton have missed out on signing Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his personal X account on Wednesday night (8 January), Romano reported that Philogene, 22, is set to undergo a medical at Ipswich Town on Thursday morning (9 January).
It is understood that the Toffees made an “important bid” to sign the former Hull City attacker. However, Ipswich have reportedly agreed a fee of £21million – plus add-ons – with Aston Villa and the player is now currently travelling to Suffolk to sign for the Tractor Boys.
Everton miss out on Jaden Philogene
Everton are always going to struggle when they go toe-to-toe with other clubs in the transfer market.
Ipswich are unlikely to be anywhere near breaching PSR rules due to the fact they were only promotion to the Premier League last season, whereas the Toffees have been battling to balance the books for years.
Sean Dyche’s uncertainty could also play a role because why would a club sign a player when they don’t know who his manager is going to be in – potentially – just a few days’ time?

Ipswich now have Philogene booked in for a medical, meaning that barring any late collapse in any kind of agreements or a failure of his checks, he’ll be the newest addition to Kieran McKenna’s side.
Romano claims McKenna was vital in convincing Philogene to head to Portman Road, which again shows just how important the managerial situation is at a club when it comes to completing signings.
