Armando Broja injury: Serious Everton update as oxygen given on pitch

Armando Broja looks to have suffered a “serious” ankle injury as Everton beat Peterborough in the FA Cup, Martin Keown says.

The former Arsenal defender reacted to replays as Broja crashed to a heap late on after a challenge as the Toffees won 2-0 at Goodison on Thursday (9 January).

The striker was challenged by an opposition defender and had to be given oxygen before being taken off on a stretcher.

Speaking on BBC iPlayer (9 January), Keown said: “Broja is so unlucky with injuries.

“He has done his ACL before and was out for a long time. Since he’s been at Everton, it has been injury after injury. He doesn’t look well. He has done something serious to that ankle.

“They are giving him oxygen.”

In a game that should have been fairly straightforward for the Merseyside outfit, it will be hard for the Goodison faithful to digest Broja’s injury.

Sean Dyche was relieved of his duties right before the FA Cup tie, and fans had hoped for better things to come.

The Chelsea loanee started on the bench against the Posh after another recent issue, replacing goalscorer Beto in the 68th minute of the fixture.

But the Albanian striker didn’t last long on the pitch, and it remains to be seen how long he will be on the sidelines.

The centre-forward already missed most of the first half of the campaign, only making his first start for the Blues against Nottingham Forest.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was also not on the bench for the Toffees as they beat Darren Ferguson’s team.

Youssef Chermiti is also nowhere to be seen, and with Beto the only fit number nine at the moment, The Friedkin Group will undoubtedly have to go into the market to buy reinforcements.

If Broja is out for another lengthy spell, it’s unlikely that the Merseysiders will opt to make his move permanent in the summer.

In other Everton news, a dream double appointment could be completed with Wayne Rooney in the dugout.
