David Moyes hire: Everton agreement update as Friedkin talks begin already
David Ornstein has revealed that David Moyes is the number one target to take over the reins at Everton.
The Athletic journalist reported on 9 January that The Friedkin Group have worked swiftly to look for a replacement for Sean Dyche.
The new owner’s primary focus is on retaining their status in the Premier League as they are fighting relegation.
Ornstein wrote on X: “David Moyes emerges as top target of The Friedkin Group (TFG) to succeed Sean Dyche as Everton manager. No agreement yet; talks ongoing with 61yo as TFG work to make swift appointment, with focus being to retain Everton’s Premier League status.”
David Moyes knows Everton inside out
The Toffees need someone who not only knows the Premier League but also the club ethos.
For that, there are few better than Moyes and he could be a great short-term appointment for the club.
He had an unbelievable time as the Toffees manager and that made Sir Alex Ferguson so impressed that he told Manchester United that he’s the right man to succeed him.
While that move did not work out, it was a lot to do with how badly the club was run rather than the Scotsman himself.
It remains to be seen whether or not Moyes will be willing to take over mid season as he might want a break.
He guided West Ham to a European trophy recently and his stock is at a high even though his time there did not end on a bright note.
While he may not be the option for the club in the long term, he could be a good short-term fix.
