Dyche sack: Paulo Fonseca to Everton on cards as Sky Sports drops new update
Everton could consider hiring Paulo Fonseca as a replacement for Sean Dyche, according to Sky Sports.
Speaking on Thursday morning (9 January), Alan Irwin shared that Dyche’s future at Goodison Park remains up in the air despite Graham Potter, who The Friedkin Group held talks with, joining West Ham United. Dyche was reportedly sacked by Everton later on Thursday.
The Sky Sports reporter said that David Moyes’ return would cause a divide among the fanbase and revealed Fonseca as another candidate for the managerial job at the Merseyside-based club.
“His [Dyche’s] future is very much up in the air and if he was to be replaced, I suppose the question would be asked [about] who would come into Everton Football Club”, Irwin said on Sky Sports.
“We certainly know that Graham Potter was one that The Friedkin Group did speak to, but he is now firmly in place, as we’ve just heard, at West Ham United.
“So, would we see a return to Everton of David Moyes? I think he will certainly be linked with the job if it becomes available and that would be something that would split the fanbase possibly.
“Another linked with the role is Paulo Fonseca, who was recently sacked at AC Milan. He’s been in charge of Lille, Roma and Porto to name a few clubs over recent years.”
Paulo Fonseca better option for Everton than Jose Mourinho
Another manager linked with the hot seat at Goodison Park is Jose Mourinho, who, unlike the other two, is currently employed at Fenerbahce.
Fonseca, though, appears to be a better option for the Merseyside-based club than the veteran tactician, not least because he is available for free.
The 51-year-old is currently without a job after being sacked as the AC Milan boss on 30 December.
Although he has yet to manage on English soil, he has had significant success elsewhere, particularly in Ukraine and Portugal.
It is worth noting that Fonseca was in charge of Roma when The Friedkin Group bought the Serie A club in 2020.

The owners relieved him of his duties in June 2021 and replaced him with Mourinho, who stayed at the helm for three-and-a-half years before being sacked in January 2024.
It, therefore, remains to be seen if the Friedkins are interested in the idea of reuniting with either of them on Merseyside.
