Everton in ‘Massive’ trouble as Paul Merson makes new relegation prediction

Everton are in deep trouble in the Premier League relegation battle this season, according to Paul Merson.

Assessing the Toffees’ situation, Merson said that Sean Dyche’s side are in a “massive” relegation battle this time around as they sit just one point above the drop zone.

The Arsenal legend went on to predict that the Merseyside-based club or Ipswich Town will join Leicester and Southampton in dropping down to the Championship.

“I think Everton are in a massive, massive, massive relegation battle”, Merson said on Sky Sports News (9 January).

“I ain’t sure, I think it’s out of them and Ipswich who gets relegated.”

Can Sean Dyche steer Everton clear of relegation zone?

The Friedkin Group may have only come into power on 19 December 2024, but they are already at a crossroads.

They must decide if Dyche is the right man to steer Everton clear of the relegation zone now as they need to make the most of the January transfer window

It is evident that the Toffees need to strengthen their squad in the ongoing window if they want to avoid relegation and it would not make sense to make new signings based on Dyche’s demands only to sack him later.

Therefore, this is the right time for the new owners to sack the Englishman if they plan to do so anyway.

It would be better for the Goodison Park outfit to fire Dyche, bring in a new manager of their choice and then back in the window accordingly.

However, they would need to act quickly if that is their plan as a week has already passed in the window.

In other Everton news, The Friedkin Group have pumped £289million into the club in January.
