Everton v Peterborough: Goodison Park images emerge after postponement update
Liverpool City Council has provided a video showing gritting staff working on preparing the surrounding area of Goodison Park ahead of Everton against Peterborough United in the FA Cup.
It was reported earlier on Thursday (9 January) by the Everton Fan Services X account that a safety meeting with local authorities will be held at 1pm to discuss weather conditions ahead of the third-round tie.
The announcement at the time stated that the game was still scheduled to go ahead, although the situation could change depending on the weather.
Liverpool City Council replied to the initial post with video footage of work being done around the stadium as attempts are made to ensure supporter safety and get the game on.
They added on the post: “A crew of 40 gritting staff have been out this morning to treat the roads around Goodison Park to ensure conditions are as safe as possible for fans travelling to the stadium for tonight’s FA Cup match. A ground safety meeting involving
“Everton will assess the situation at 1pm.”
Everton working to get Peterborough game on
Everton have already been hit by a fixture postponement this season when the Merseyside Derby was called off due to Storm Darragh and they last thing they will want is to have another game kiboshed.
Of course, what is absolutely vital is the safety of the supporters, though, and if it isn’t safe well then it isn’t safe and a new date will have to be found to play the game.
It looks as though a lot of work is going in to getting the game on, but the treacherous conditions throughout the country right now mean there is absolutely no guarantee and ultimately it is a waiting game until the outcome of the safety meeting.
If the game does get on, then Everton will be looking for some respite from their patchy Premier League form against the League One outfit and to build some much-needed confidence for their top-flight campaign.
