David Moyes return: New timeline emerges for Everton manager appointment
Joe Thomas believes that David Moyes could reach an agreement for his Everton return as early as this weekend.
The Liverpool ECHO journalist reported via his personal X account while replying to a fan (10 January) that with the Scotsman now the front-runner for the role, the Friedkin Group will want to “move quickly” after sacking Sean Dyche.
Other names have been linked with the Goodison Park hot seat but it is looking increasingly like that Moyes, who left his role at West Ham in the summer will make his return to the Toffees.
“The intent is for them to move quickly, David, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal was sorted over the weekend,” he wrote.
“On Dyche, it was a bit of a strange one, having been looking at the situation earlier in the week picked them back up Thursday morning.”
David Moyes is the right man for Everton
Even though Dyche has made a name for himself as a Premier League survival specialist, it feels like Moyes could be the man to get Everton out of their rut.
At the moment, there’s only one point between the Merseyside outfit and the bottom three spots, which is obviously a far from ideal situation for the Toffees to find themselves in.
Especially when the 2025/26 season will be the Toffees’ first in their new Bramley-Moore Docks Stadium.

It would be an absolute travesty for the Merseyside outfit if they were to spend their first campaign in their new stadium in the second tier as all that money they’ve put into making a state-of-the-art facility would be wasted in the Championship.
At the moment, Moyes’ arrival isn’t officially confirmed but with the way that reports have progressed over the last 24 hours, it now feels like it’s a matter of when, not if.
