Everton new manager: Tony Bellew reacts to what he’s asked about David Moyes

Tony Bellew has admitted that he would welcome David Moyes back to Everton with “open arms” after the sacking of Sean Dyche.

The Friedkin Group parted ways with Dyche on Thursday (9 January) with the Toffees sitting just two points clear of the relegation zone.

According to Ben Jacobs, the Blues are already in talks with their former boss David Moyes over the possibility of returning to the club initially until the end of the season.

When asked on talkSPORT (10 January, 9:07am) if he’d welcome Moyes back to Goodison Park, Bellew admitted: “With open arms. With open arms.

“A really good manager and you know what, I think it was last season now, or was it the season before when he won the trophy at West Ham I sat there and I sent them a message and wished them well and all I could think when watching that game was that should be us, that should be Everton Football Club because that’s what David Moyes is capable of.

“He is capable of winning trophies and with the right backing and with the right team, he can do a really good job and it killed me when I saw them do that because I just know that should be us.”

The Evertonian went on to say: “I’m hoping David Moyes walks through the door, I really am because I just think the way he brings it and the things that he can do.

“He showed at West Ham what Everton Football Club could possibly do and that would just be a dream for all Evertonians. Everton football fans in Europe again, winning a trophy in Europe, going well in the league.

“It seems so far away now but you give him enough time and give him the respect he deserves and the players fight for you then I promise you he will get us where West Ham once was.”

David Moyes the man for Everton?

With the Toffees sitting very close to the relegation zone and going down to the Championship a very real possibility currently, whoever is appointed will have a big job on their hands to get to straightaway.

Moyes is a man who knows the club very well and, which is exactly what is needed meaning it could be a good appointment.

If TFG can strike an initial deal until the end of the current campaign, it would put the owners in a good position to make a quick decision now before deciding where to take the club long-term.

However, like Bellew says, we have seen the 61-year-old take his West Ham side to a European trophy which is surely an ambition of the Toffees following their takeover.

Therefore, if the Scotsman could impress between now and the end of the season, he could well be given the opportunity to replicate his success in Blue.

Moyes’ exit for Manchester United over a decade ago might have left a sour taste in the mouth of Toffees supporters but, for now, he feels like he could be a shrewd appointment.
