Young sends one-word message after what happened in Everton v Peterborough
Ashley Young admits he was “gutted” after not being able to play on the same pitch as his son in the FA Cup third-round tie between Everton and Peterborough on Thursday.
The Everton veteran took to X on Friday morning (10 January) and simply shared a one-word message that said: “GUTTED….”.
The Toffees left Goodison Park victorious after a 2-0 win but the main story from Merseyside was the fact that Posh boss Darren Ferguson chose against bringing Tyler Young on so that he could play against his dad.
Ferguson has responded to his decision by saying Posh weren’t a “charity case” and that he needed to bring on an attacker to try and get something from the game.
Everton need to find themselves a new manager after Sean Dyche was sacked
While this could well be Young’s last season in football as a player because he’s now 39 years old, it hasn’t been a simple season for the veteran.
Everton once again find themselves in a Premier League relegation battle and now that Sean Dyche has exited Goodison Park, the hunt is on for a new man to lead the way.
At the moment, it seems that David Moyes is going to be the manager to step up and take over the hot seat but, of course, things can change in an instant in football.
Everton legends Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are the duo in charge on an interim basis for now and while a deal for Moyes seems close, they could find themselves in the role for a little while longer yet.

If the Merseyside outfit want to rid themselves of the burden of relegation, some new faces are going to have to be brought in and a new style of play wouldn’t go amiss either.
Only time will tell who the Friedkins choose to employ but no matter who it ends up being, the appointment needs to happen as quickly as possible.
