David Moyes admission made amid ‘Toxic’ Everton verdict
Glenn Murray believes that Everton has been a “toxic place” over the last few years but admitted David Moyes could be the ideal man to bring the club back together.
The Scotsman has taken up the role as the Toffees’ boss once again after Sean Dyche was relieved of his duties after a hugely underwhelming campaign.
The 61-year-old hasn’t yet taken charge of first-team training but it feels like this could actually be the start of a new dawn for Everton now that the former Burnley boss has gone.
While speaking on Football Focus (11 December), BBC pundit Murray shared his thoughts on the Scotsman’s appointment.
“I think it’s an appointment that knits the club together again, I think it’s been quite a toxic place over recent seasons,” he said.
“They’ve had some good managers in there, none have quite been able to make a difference and I think it’s fair to say Dyche stabilised them which was important at that moment in time.
“But I think the the fans will be happy to see Moyes there and obviously it’s a new dawn for the football club.”
Was David Moyes the right call for Everton?
Although it was made evident from near to the start of the season that Dyche’s days as Everton boss were numbered, many are still questioning whether Moyes was the correct replacement.
Indeed, fans may have been getting tired of the negative playstyle that Dyche played each week but he made the Toffees very difficult to beat, which, when none of your strikers are firing, is exactly what needs to be done.
Last season, West Ham United had the fourth-worst defensive record in the league with only the three relegated sides ending the campaign worse off.
However, the fact Moyes’ defence was leaky at the London Stadium wasn’t all that much of an issue due to the impressive form that Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen found themselves in.

At Everton, however, while both Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have stood out from their teammates, they’re nowhere near the level that the aforementioned duo were.
Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, it still remains unclear whether this was the best move that the Friedkin Group could have made.
