Ernest Nuamah update as Everton eye first David Moyes transfer – Exclusive
Lyon forward Ernest Nuamah is not on the verge of joining Everton as previously reported, Goodison News understands.
According to Santi Aouna (11 January), the 21-year-old is believed to be “one step away” from becoming the first signing of the latest David Moyes era on Merseyside.
However, Goodison News has learned those reports are wide of the mark, with no deal thought to be imminent.
A move for Nuamah collapsed during the final stages of Deadline Day last summer.
Everton not close to signing Ernest Nuamah
The Toffees are the second-lowest goalscorers in the Premier League behind bottom-of-the-table Southampton – offensive recruits will be necessary this month.
Kevin Thelwell sought to acquire Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom to bolster the frontline, while Jack Harrison was also re-signed on loan for the recently dismissed Sean Dyche in the summer.
Ndiaye remains the only one out of the three who can be considered a success at Goodison Park, while the loan pair are yet to register a single contribution between them this season.
Everton had looked well-placed to complete the signing of another long-term transfer target in Aston Villa forward Jaden Philogene, but that deal is now off the cards after Ipswich Town agreed a £20million fee on Thursday (BBC Sport, 9 January).

Thelwell should consider broadening his search past previously failed targets this month, and it appears the sporting director is finally listening to reason as Everton sources pour cold water on the Nuamah speculation.
The Friedkin Group must back Moyes in January ahead of another Premier League relegation battle – Evertonians will be keeping a close eye on transfer developments as they emerge at Goodison Park.
