Calvert-Lewin exit: West Ham development emerges in Everton transfer twist

Everton are set to receive an approach from West Ham United for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reported on Monday (13 January) that West Ham have been alerted to the lack of movement in contract negotiations on Merseyside and hope a cut-price fee could be agreed this month.

While the extensive transfer interest in the forward leading up to the transfer window has yet to bear fruit, movements are developing as Atalanta send representatives to Goodison Park to broker a deal [Alan Nixon].

West Ham are eager to steal a march on the Serie A outfit and must contend with Premier League rivals Newcastle United as the race for Calvert-Lewin’s services heats up.

The situation regarding Calvert-Lewin at Everton is not as cut dry as it may appear.

His relationship with ex-boss Sean Dyche was undoubtedly strained beyond repair after his fiancé Sandra Jerze took an apparent swipe at Dyche following the forward’s snub from the starting lineup for the 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest on 29 December.

However, David Moyes has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to succeed the former manager, and it remains to be seen how the managerial change affects Calvert-Lewin’s situation on Merseyside.

As seen at West Ham, Moyes prefers to use a target man to lead his front line, and the forward fits the bill for how the new boss predominantly likes his sides to play.

He still has a lot to answer for at Goodison Park, with only two goals scored in 16 Premier League starts, he is a main factor in Everton boasting the second-worst goalscoring record in the division.

Should Dyche have remained at Goodison Park, West Ham’s interest would have been straightforward -cash in now and reinvest the funds for a replacement.

Evertonians will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops, but Moyes must make a quick decision on the forward.

It could be the case that his appointment has no effect on Calvert-Lewin’s desire to leave for pastures new.
