Ernest Nuamah transfer: John Textor twist emerges as £20.9m Everton update drops

Everton are facing “several hurdles” to sign Ernest Nuamah from Lyon during the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via their website (13 January) that the Toffees remain in talks with the Ligue 1 club over a deal for the 21-year-old, although they are not at an advanced stage yet contrary to earlier reports in France.

David Moyes’ side are yet to make an offer for the Ghana international, while Lyon are likely to demand between £ 20.9-25.1million for him.

John Textor was more open to selling Nuamah in the summer, but has since changed his mind and is, therefore, “bullish” about the demands.

The Merseyside-based club had agreed personal terms with Nuamah in the summer, but a transfer did not come to fruition.

It is worth noting that Textor was in the mix to buy the Goodison Park outfit at that point and that may have been why he was more open to doing business with them then.

However, with The Friedkin Group buying Everton from Farhad Moshiri, Textor, who is known to be a tough negotiator, has no interest in the Premier League club.

Kevin Thelwell, though, remains a huge admirer of Nuamah and it is up to him to broker a deal with the American businessman.

The 21-year-old, meanwhile, has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Lyon this season, with seven of his 12 Ligue 1 appearances coming off the bench.

He has an opportunity to become a key player at Goodison Park as Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison have struggled to make an impact so far.
