Evan Ferguson transfer: Everton make approach for first Moyes signing

Everton have now made contact with Brighton regarding a potential loan deal for Evan Ferguson, according to Graeme Bailey.

The journalist reported via the TBR Football website (14 January) that the Seagulls’ chairman Tony Bloom will likely only allow the Irishman to exit on a loan deal.

The Toffees have been on the hunt for a new striker for some time now with none of the strikers fulfilling expectations this season.

Evan Ferguson would be too much of a gamble for Everton

One complication for Everton is the fact they already have two domestic loan signings, with the Liverpool Echo explaining how clubs are only allowed two from fellow English sides at a time.

But what has been made abundantly clear by the poor form of both Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season is that David Moyes is in dire need of a new number nine.

Neither of the aforementioned duo have fulfilled expectations and while Broja was brought in to try and compete for a starting spot, his injuries have hindered his progress massively.

On paper, Ferguson looks like an impressive candidate to help ease the Toffees’ woes but the fact that both Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro have been chosen to start over him this season, says all Everton fans need to know.

In addition to his lack of form, the Irishman has been sidelined due to injury for a large chunk of the season, in fact, he’s even injured at the moment and fans will know how badly that’s ended up for them with the signing of Broja.

Of course, only time will tell who Moyes chooses to bring in but at the moment, it’s anyone’s guess.

In other Everton news, Joe Thomas believes the Premier League’s recent PSR ruling is “quite telling ” of the Toffees’ position from last season.
