Everton push hard for new midfielder after £83m transfer reveal
Everton are pushing hard to sign Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios in the winter transfer window, according to CaughtOffside.
The news outlet reports (14 January) that the Toffees have joined Tottenham in the race for the 24-year-old before 3 February.
The midfielder has caught the attention of European clubs after impressing in Brazil, and while it’s unclear how much Palmeiras will ask for, the Colombia international has an £83million release clause.
Everton would surprise with big-money transfer for Richard Rios
The Toffees would undoubtedly surprise many if they were able to pull off a big-money transfer for Rios in the coming weeks.
As things stand, The Friedkin Group have put the Blues in a more stable position after taking over from Farhad Moshiri, but it remains to be seen whether they will spend a lot before the 3 February deadline.
The Merseyside outfit also have to prioritise strengthening other positions before adding reinforcements in the middle of the park in January.
Everton are struggling with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who led the line for most of the campaign under Sean Dyche before the English manager was eventually sacked.
Armando Broja had only recently made his return from injury at Goodison but picked up a knock as the Toffees beat Peterborough 2-0 in the FA Cup.

Beto scored against the League One outfit and could be tasked to lead the line as David Moyes picks his first starting eleven against Aston Villa on Wednesday (15 January).
Signing a number nine is evidently the need of the hour at the Blues, making a pursuit for Rios doubtful as things stand.
