Premier League PSR news ‘Quite Telling’ amid Everton decision

Joe Thomas has shared that the Premier League can offer “no update” as to where things stand on an “outstanding” PSR issue with Everton.

It was announced on Tuesday that the Toffees have passed the Premier League’s PSR rules for the 2023/24 accounting period [Martyn Ziegler].

However, the Blues are still waiting to hear an update on issue relating to interest on their new stadium from the previous accounting period (the Athletic).

Reporting via X (14 January), Liverpool ECHO journalist Thomas shared that he thinks that although nothing has yet been said by the Premier League regarding the case, its “quite telling” that the Toffees have passed their checks for 2023/24.

“Just on the ‘outstanding’ stadium interest issue between Everton and the Premier League, the PL maintain they can offer no update on where it stands,” he wrote.

“An unhelpful position but the lack of timely action, and concession EFC are PSR compliant this year, is probably quite telling.”

Everton have been handed some hope by the Premier League after the latest news

Although Everton’s PSR woes haven’t been as prominent in the media as their poor form this season, it was still a big issue at the club.

The Toffees were fairly smart in the summer transfer window, ensuring that they brought in multiple players for cheap fees and selling others such as Amadou Onana for big-money deals.

Today’s news that they have passed the 2023/24 checks is obviously excellent news, though it’s frustrating there has been radio silence on the other dispute – in fact it is massively unhelpful for all parties.

It’s evident that David Moyes needs to strengthen his ranks in January as one of the main thorns in their side this term has been the lack of goals their strikers have scored.

But there will obviously be some caution in the window and understandably so. Everton will still need to box clever to strengthen Moyes’ ranks for the rest of the season.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what the future holds for Everton but as Thomas alluded to, the fact they’ve passed the parameters for the 2023/24 season seems like good news moving forwards.

In other Everton news, a push is being made to sign a midfielder after an £83million transfer reveal.
