Danny Murphy names biggest asset Moyes has in Everton v Aston Villa prediction

Danny Murphy believes that David Moyes having the Everton fans behind him is the “biggest” thing he has going for him at Goodison Park.

The Scotsman has recently been reappointed as the Toffees’ manager with the Friedkins looking for him to try and turn things around as soon as possible after sacking Sean Dyche.

The Merseyside outfit are set to face Aston Villa for the first game of the new Moyes era with Murphy predicting that Everton could “get something” from the clash.

“There’s only so much you can do, you can make the atmosphere around the place a bit more jolly and a bit more upbeat and the biggest thing he’s [Moyes] going to have is the fans on board,” he said live on talkSPORT (15 January, 15:53pm).

“As a player, when there’s a change of manager, generally because it’s a bad reason they’ve gone, it’s negative, that relief of the fans or release of stress and anger transfers to the players.

“I think they’ll get something tonight, I’m not sure they’ll win but they’ll get something.”

David Moyes could become an instant Everton hero if he beats Aston Villa

While the Scotsman may have over half of the season left to try and turn things around at Goodison Park, it still feels like he has a rather steep hill to climb before they’re safe.

One of the main thorns in the side of Everton this term has been the lack of goals that their number nines have scored this season.

Both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have failed to live up to expectations, scoring fewer than five goals between them this term.

Of course, the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have picked up the pieces but the duo can’t be relied upon for the full season.

If Moyes can find a way to beat Emery’s men on Wednesday, it will no doubt fill the players with hope and perhaps give them the momentum needed to go on a bit of a run to try and make their way out of the relegation battle.
