Everton now in surprise transfer talks to seal Tom Cannon return

Everton have held talks to re-sign Tom Cannon in the winter transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reports (15 January) that David Moyes is looking to bolster his attack in the coming weeks, and the Toffees have identified the Leicester striker again.

The Blues have been in discussions over the Irish striker in the last 24 hours after his loan spell at Stoke was cancelled early, but a move back to the Championship is more likely at this stage.

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy doesn’t count on the centre-forward and is ready to approve his exit in the coming weeks.

Tom Cannon transfer return needed at Everton

Cannon made his way through the youth ranks at the Merseyside outfit before eventually joining the Foxes in 2023 on a permanent transfer.

During his spell at the Toffees, the Ireland international was hardly given any game time, so it seemed like the right option for them to cash in on him.

The Blues are now in evident need of a new number nine to reinforce their forward line, with Armando Broja picking up an injury in the 2-0 win over Peterborough in the FA Cup.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin also missed the game against the Posh, and it remains to be seen whether Everton will be able to count on him soon.

Beto is the other option up front for Moyes, and despite his goal against the League One outfit, the Guinean has been profligate for most of his career at Goodison.

Cannon has shown glimpses of his talent on loan at Stoke City this season, and it will be interesting to see whether the Blues will be able to seal a deal for him.
