Everton player wanted by Cesc Fabregas at Como

Everton forward Beto is wanted by Cesc Fabregas’s Como, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported in its print edition on Wednesday (15 January, pg23) that the Serie A side have prioritised signing an “important striker” in the winter transfer window, with Beto on the shortlist.

Beto is a hot commodity in the winter transfer market, especially in Italy, with Como having to fend off interest from Serie A rivals Torino to land their man.

Everton must lower Beto demands to secure Como sale

While all the reported transfer interest in Beto is all well and good, it means nothing if Kevin Thelwell does not lower his valuation.

Torino were long believed to be the front-runner for the 26-year-old, but negotiations have since been put on hold due to the Toffees’ “monster” demands [Tuttomercatoweb].

The delay has allowed Como to sneak in, but Everton will suffer from a case of deja vu as Fabregas encounters the same problems that stalled the Torino deal.

Beto has failed to reach the heights he achieved in his last stint in Italy with Udinese, wherein he averaged a goal every three games with 21 goals in 62 Serie A appearances.

However, he has only managed to score seven times in a year and a half on Merseyside – there is no sense in Thelwell pricing interested parties out of a move.

Although a slim chance remains of a fresh start at Goodison Park, given the arrival of David Moyes, the forward remains one of few assets who could be sold to provide the new boss with the necessary funds to bolster his squad.

Everton run the risk of losing more of the £27million investment paid to Udinese for his services – it is time for Thelwell to sanction a sale while the interest is high.
