Moyes makes striker decision in six changes – Everton confirmed XI v Aston Villa

David Moyes has made six changes for his first Everton starting line-up since returning as manager as they get set to face Aston Villa on Wednesday.

The Toffees announced their lineup via their official X account (15 January) to take on the Villans at Goodison Park with Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming in as one of six changes made by the Scotsman from their FA Cup victory over Peterborough (9 January) last time out.

Beto, Nathan Patterson, Joao Virginia, Harrison Armstrong, Michael Keane and Jake O’Brien have all been dropped from Everton’s starting line-up with Moyes gearing up for his first game as the Toffees’ new boss.

In their place come Jordan Pickford, Ashley Young, James Tarkowski, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Jack Harrison and Calvert-Lewin with Moyes desperate to get off to a winning start against Unai Emery’s men.

David Moyes would be an instant Everton hero with a win v Aston Villa

Things haven’t been all that bright in the Blue half of Merseyside since the start of the season.

While the Toffees aren’t in the bottom three spots in the Premier League just yet, it feels like their season has been fairly disappointing.

Which is why it wasn’t all that much of a surprise to see Sean Dyche relieved of his duties.

While he’s well-known to be a survival specialist, it just felt like things weren’t going quite right with the Merseyside outfit often ending up on the back foot.

The Villans have been in impressive form this term and will no doubt be looking to end the campaign in a top-four spot, however, if the Scotsman can somehow find a way to get either Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Beto to find their goal-scoring boots, he could be onto a winner.

Only time will tell what the future holds but as Moyes has named such a strong starting XI against Villa, some hope could start to creep in.
