Alan Shearer makes ‘Massive’ relegation claim after Everton MOTD footage he saw

Alan Shearer believes Everton will be in “massive” relegation trouble if David Moyes doesn’t get more goals out of his side.

The Scot made his Goodison return on Wednesday (15 January) but fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa.

Ollie Watkins’ goal was the difference between the two sides as Dominic Calvert-Lewin blew the Toffees’ best chance late on as a point evaded the home side.

This summed up the lack of potency for the Merseyside outfit in front of goal which Shearer told Match of the Day is the biggest issue for the new head coach to deal with in L4.

He said: “That’s the problem, 15 goals he’s not a magician David Moyes but somehow he’s got to get goals into that team otherwise they’re in massive trouble.”

There were some positives to take from the clash against Unai Emery’s side despite not getting on the scoresheet in the end.

On another day, the Toffees’ striker could get a goal while Orel Mangala also had an effort saved by Emi Martinez in the closing stages.

There is now an issue emerging in the squad at Goodison for the new head coach, especially with Armando Broja suffering a new injury setback.

Ultimately, Moyes’ side didn’t look convincing in front of goal and arguably could have played all night against the Villans and not scored.

This is something that the former Manchester United boss needs to solve but with the options available to him right now, that is easier said than done.

The winter transfer window could be utilised to bring in a forward option who can transform the Toffees’ fortunes in front of goal which appears to be necessary after a poor showing against Villa.
