Alan Shearer moots David Moyes transfer promise amid Everton desperation
Alan Shearer says he’d be surprised if David Moyes took the Everton job without the promise of January transfers.
Moyes oversaw his first game upon his return to Goodison Park on Wednesday (15 January) but suffered a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa.
Therefore, the Scotsman has plenty of work to do during the transfer window if he is going to improve his side’s form to save them from relegation.
Shearer feels as though additions are a given under Moyes, saying he “desperately” needs a striker.
Speaking on Match of the Day (15 January) Shearer said: “I’d be really surprised if he’s taken that job on without the promise of players coming in this January to help them out.
“They desperately need that, they need some to put the ball in the back of the net.”
David Moyes needs urgent Everton reinforcements
The Blues remain 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone, serving as a sobering reminder that there is plenty of work to be done under Moyes if they are going to be saved from a scrap at the bottom end of the table.
However, as Shearer says, it would be surprising to see the 61-year-old unable to bring reinforcement in during the transfer window as the boss will know that this is exactly what is needed to help change their fate.
The Toffees are fairly solid defensively but they are struggling to create anything at the top end of the pitch which could be costly in the second half of the campaign.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have contributed three goals between them this term and Armando Broja has picked up another injury setback which will surely leave the boss questioning where the impact is going to come from.
It will be interesting to see where the manager looks towards during the window to strengthen his side.
