Everton could negotiate Premier League settlement after Chelsea news – Expert
Stefan Borson has speculated that the Premier League and Everton could come to a “settlement” agreement regarding an ongoing PSR dispute.
This comes after it was reported by the Daily Mail (15 January), that Chelsea were “in talks with the Premier League to agree financial settlement for secret payments allegedly made to agents during the Roman Abramovich era”.
Everton were hit with two separate points deductions from last season but have still yet to hear any official confirmation on potential punishment with regards to an ongoing issue related to the interest costs associated with their new stadium.
Nothing has yet been said about that case even though all the Premier League’s clubs have passed their PSR checks.
Reporting via X (15 January), finance expert Borson shared his opinion on the matter.
“Absolutely impossible for the Premier League to continue to pursue Everton over subjective accounting treatments for a season already prosecuted whilst, simultaneously, negotiating a cash settlement out of an escrow account for admitted sporting related irregularities by Chelsea,” he wrote.
“Everton case may well also be being negotiated for settlement but nobody involved able or willing to say.”
This could end up being good news for Everton
While nothing is yet set in stone regarding Everton or Chelsea’s cases, with the Toffees passing the Premier League’s PSR checks, it feels quite telling.
Last season was one of the toughest in the Toffees’ history with Sean Dyche somehow leading the club to safety despite having two separate point deductions.
Now that David Moyes is at the help. it feels like Everton could have been given a new lease of life which is exactly what was needed.
Granted, the Scotsman did lose his first game in charge but if it wasn’t for the poor finishing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, he’d have already added a point to his tally.

At the moment, it’s unclear what the future holds for Everton but at the moment, it feels like things could start to get a little brighter in the Blue half of Merseyside.
There’s still over half of the season left for their form to turn around which will no doubt be on top of Moyes’ priority list.
