Everton ‘to appoint’ former Liverpool star to work alongside Moyes
David Moyes wants to bring Charlie Adam into his Everton backroom team as a specialist set-piece coach, according to Alan Nixon.
The journalist reported via his Patreon page (16 January) that Moyes is looking to add Adam to his coaching staff at Goodison Park, having known the ex-Scotland international since his time at Rangers.
Moyes is a “big admirer” of Adam, who left his first senior managerial post at EFL club Fleetwood Town last month.
Returning boss Moyes has already brought in Billy McKinley and Alan Irvine to join his coaching team at Finch Farm.
Moyes and Adam’s relationship goes back a long way, with the former Liverpool midfielder having been a lodger at Moyes’ family home when the Toffees boss’ father, David Moyes senior, worked at Rangers.

Having only been appointed a matter of days ago – after being out of work since his West Ham contract ended in May – it’s no surprise to see that Moyes hasn’t brought a full complement of coaches with him.
Adding McKinley and Irvine as his assistants straight away is a strong start for Moyes – albeit not strong enough to beat Aston Villa on Wednesday (15 January) – as is keeping Leighton Baines as part of his staff.

However, bringing in further additions such as Adam will surely only benefit the Toffees in the long run, with set-pieces in particular a key aspect of play, which could lift Moyes’ side out of trouble this term.
Sean Dyche put a particular impetus on set-pieces as a source of goals for the Blues, and with Moyes inheriting a squad built in Dyche’s image, every dead-ball situation must be utilised to maximum effect.
Set-pieces could be the key to getting Dominic Calvert-Lewin back in the goals once again, and having given Moyes a two-and-a-half year contract, expect the Friedkin Group to grant the Scot’s first wish.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been offered the chance to sign a two-time Premier League winner on a free transfer.
