Everton told price to start talks for Richard Rios transfer now

Everton would have to offer £16.3million to start talks for Richard Rios, according to Caracol.

The Colombian outlet reports (15 January) that the Blues are interested in the 24-year-old midfielder and Palmeiras would be open to a sale if their asking price is met.

It states that the Toffees face competition from Tottenham and Nottingham Forest to secure the 24-year-old before the 3 February deadline.

Rios has started 24 matches for the Brazilian side this season, but his £83million release clause could be a sticking point in negotiations.

Everton should sign Richard Rios

The Blues will have to move quickly to sign the Colombia midfielder given interest from their Premier League rivals.

The Toffees’ engine room has struggled this season with James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam missing the majority of the campaign through injuries.

David Moyes could do with more quality in the middle of the park to ease the burden on Idrissa Gana Gueye and Orel Mangala with Abdoulaye Doucoure usually operating as a number ten.

Rios would provide the Scottish manager with a tough-tackling, commanding presence in his engine room, the kind of steel that would win over the Goodison Park faithful.

It remains to be seen what moves the Merseyside club can make in the winter transfer market given the perilous relationship with Profit and Sustainability rules.

One thing is for sure, Moyes needs bodies through the door this month as he looks to ensure top-flight survival in his second stint at the club.
