David Moyes ‘must push for Calvert-Lewin contract at Everton’ amid injury update

David Moyes must push to tie Dominic Calvert-Lewin down to a new contract after the latest injury development at Everton.

The 11-time England international has been linked with a move away from Goodison as his current deal comes to an end in the summer.

Atalanta are one side who are pushing to sign the 27-year-old [Alan Nixon], which may prove to be difficult to turn down.

Despite this, the new Toffees manager now has to work hard to convince the striker to stay after an injury issue was revealed by the Scot.

Although the former Sheffield United forward has come under fire in recent weeks, capped off by a miss in the defeat against Aston Villa, he is still an important asset in L4.

His importance has only been increased now that Armando Broja looks set to return to Chelsea after suffering an injury against Peterborough United.

This news was shared by Moyes, via Everton on X (15 January), who said: “We think he’s going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks. It’s his ankle ligaments.

“It’ll probably mean there’s a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea.”

To be without the Albania international for the rest of the season while also facing the potential exit of Calvert-Lewin will not be good for the Toffees’ front line.

As a result, Moyes has to do his utmost to sell his project on Merseyside to encourage the forward to extend his nine-year spell with the Blues.

If the Englishman is to make a move away, he would leave the Goodison club extremely light which would represent a huge blow to the start of the Scot’s second spell in charge.
