Everton early team news v Tottenham: One could return as five definitely out

David Moyes has confirmed James Garner is back in training but five other players will miss out when Everton face Tottenham on Sunday.

Midfielder Garner has been absent since the start of October with a back injury but might now come into contention, with Moyes confirming his return to the training pitches at his pre-match news conference (Liverpool Echo, 17 January).

However, Tim Iroegbunam, Dwight McNeil, Seamus Coleman and Youssef Chermiti are all still out, as is Armando Broja, who could return to parent club Chelsea.

James Garner return would boost Everton and David Moyes

Moyes is searching for his first win since returning to Goodison Park and will be hoping his side can come away with something against Tottenham given the opposition’s poor form.

Therefore, while a number of injuries are still affecting the Blues, Garner’s return will be a boost for the boss as he looks to identify the players that can help change the Toffees’ fortunes.

The midfielder’s return gives the Scotsman another option to use and his ease on the ball and ability to keep possession ticking over could help unlock the Toffees’ attackers.

The 23-year-old has already shown his quality in Merseyside having played all but one Premier League fixture last term and therefore, the youngster has been a miss this term.

His upcoming return will give the Blues a much needed morale boost and Garner will be prepared to step up and show his side what they were missing while he was sidelined.

In other Everton news, talks are being readied for a midfield ace in a double transfer swoop.
