Everton set for £3.25m windfall after transfer development

Everton could be in line to pocket up to £3.25million should Tom Cannon leave Leicester City and join Sheffield United, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The news outlet reported on 16 January that the Toffees included a 25 per cent sell-on when he left for the Foxes back in 2023.

He is now set to be on the move again after being recalled from his loan spell, for a fee of £13million.

Everton need a quality striker in January

Despite earlier links with re-signing Cannon, the Toffees appear to have decided against bringing him back to Goodison Park.

The reasoning seems to be that the 22-year-old, while effective at the Championship level, does not match the ambition of a club aiming to solidify their position in the Premier League.

Instead of re-signing a player who has yet to prove himself at the top flight, the Toffees seem to be focusing on acquiring a more established striker who can score goals consistently in the Premier League, thus prioritising quality and experience over a reunion.

David Moyes, known for his pragmatic approach, would likely seek a striker at Everton who combines physical presence with tactical nous.

He’d ideally prefer someone with experience in the Premier League, showcasing the ability to hold up play, link up with teammates and be a reliable source of goals.

Given his arrival in the January transfer window, the club are likely to take into consideration his desired targets too.
