Dele Alli agrees deal with new club after Everton exit – Fabrizio Romano
Dele Alli has agreed a deal to sign for Serie A side Como on a free transfer after leaving Everton last summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist posted on X (18 January) to report that Como and Dele have agreed a deal to sign the midfielder “with immediate effect”, with the 28-year-old set to officially pen his contract on Sunday.
Dele’s contract at Goodison Park expired on 30 June 2024, but he had continued training at Finch Farm to maintain fitness on his way back from injury, before moving on to Cesc Fabregas’ Como last month.
Romano said: “Como agree deal to sign Dele Alli with immediate effect!
“Understand Dele signs tomorrow on a contract valid until June 2026 plus option for further season go activated based on appearances or availability.
“He’ll play in Serie A under Cesc Fabregas as coach.”
Dele Alli transfer finally closes chapter to forget at Everton
Although Dele had been training with Como for the past few weeks having ended his extended stay at Finch Farm, signing a contract at a brand new club will provide the midfielder with much-needed closure.
The former England star’s long-term future in royal blue has been clouded for several years now, having clearly been surplus to requirements at Goodison Park not long after his January 2022 arrival.
A quiet exit from Tottenham, having gone off the boil following his red-hot start to life in the Premier League, led to a forgettable spell on Merseyside and eventually resulted in a loan move to Besiktas.
However, the groin issues picked up during that loan have prevented Dele from playing a competitive first-team match since April 2023, seeing out the rest of his Toffees contract in the treatment room.
Having elongated his time at Finch Farm beyond to continue his injury recovery, moving permanently to Como now gives Dele the chance of a fresh start – and no player needs that more than him.
In other Everton news, Troy Deeney was left in disbelief at a recent contract decision made by the Goodison Park hierarchy.
