TFG to axe Everton senior duo, ex-Moyes ally lined up as replacement

The Friedkin Group could replace Kevin Thelwell and Dan Purdy with Mick Doherty at Everton, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported to his Patreon (19 January) that the senior duo’s contracts are up at the end of the season and could face the axe as the Toffees’ new owners appear keen to “reshape the operation”.

Atalanta senior scout Doherty has been linked with a switch to Merseyside after being the brain behind attempts to bring Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Italy.

These links to L4 come after working with David Moyes during his first spell in charge of the Toffees and his second stint with West Ham.

It has to be said that the departure of the Director of Football could be seen as harsh given all the financial restraints he has had to deal with.

During the 51-year-old’s spell in the role, there have been multiple points deductions and a general lack of funds available to improve the Merseyside outfit.

Despite this, many positive signings have been made with the likes of James Tarkowski, Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil representing useful business in recent years.

This isn’t to say that every deal has been a success with moves for the likes of Beto and Jake O’Brien being potentially ill-advised.

With that being said, it appears that the Friedkins are keen to take the Toffees in a new direction with Moyes and Doherty potentially set to lead the way.

This could represent a boost for the L4 club given the prior relationship between the pair which could improve transfer dealings in the coming transfer windows.

In other Everton news, a £180m deal looks to be “imminent” as TFG look set to confirm a “massive” move soon.
