David Moyes ‘livid’ with Everton v Tottenham as Stuart Pearce reveals contact

David Moyes will have been “livid” at Everton conceding two goals against Tottenham in their 3-2 victory on Sunday, Ally McCoist has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (20 January, 9:42pm), McCoist and Stuart Pearce discussed the Toffees’ first win in seven matches, having seen them go 3-0 up in a dream first half at Goodison Park on 19 January.

However, Spurs scoring twice towards the end to reduce the deficit produced a nervy final few moments, with Pearce sharing recent contact with the new boss.

“What about big Moysey”, McCoist said; “I thought they’d be a certainty to continue with the clean sheets, but all of a sudden they’re battering in three goals and losing two.”

Pearce replied: “Yeah, he won’t be happy about the two [they conceded] I know that.”

McCoist agreed, saying: “Oh, he’ll be livid.”

Pearce finished it off with his last point, noting: “I’ve been in contact with him this week and he won’t be happy with that, but I’ll tell you what, the three points has given that place a hell of a lift.”

David Moyes already livid at Everton

There’s no doubt that the top of Moyes’ to-do list upon his return to Goodison Park on 9 January was to get the Blues scoring goals again, and after a false start against Aston Villa, he’s done just that.

Going 3-0 up before half-time – against any standard of opposition – has become alien to Toffees fans across recent years, last doing so in a 5-1 win over Brighton at the back end of the 2022-23 season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin finally breaking an 18-game goal drought, and Iliman Ndiaye rubber-stamping his credentials as the main talisman this season, will have been welcome for Moyes and every Evertonian.

However, scoring at one end is of no use if the Toffees become porous at the other end, and having been re-appointed due to his record of shoring teams up, leaking two late on will be of concern for Moyes.

With the trifecta of Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite all present, Moyes will be expecting much better, but there’s still no denying how encouraging a start their victory over Spurs was.
