Seamus Coleman makes ‘massive’ David Moyes admission at Everton

Seamus Coleman has praised the return of David Moyes to Everton and feels he can take the club forward.

The 36-year-old played under Moyes 12 years ago when he was last in charge at Goodison Park, and the captain will be keen to do so again once back from injury.

The new boss got his first win with the Toffees under his belt on Sunday (19 January) with a 3-2 victory against Tottenham in a performance where the Blues looked like they had a new lease of life.

Speaking to Everton’s official website [21 January], Coleman admitted he was pleased about the return as he said: “I think it’s great to have him back. More importantly, I think him so clearly wanting to be here is massive.

“I know he moved on to Man United when he did but Everton is a massive part of his life – you can see what it means to him and for me that bodes well.

“I think it felt nostalgic because of what he did here the first time around but, take all that way, and if we were sat here without a manager and David Moyes was an option, I think we’d still be made up with that.

“The manager has experienced a lot and I’m sure he’s come back here different in terms of having to adapt to how the game evolves – but those basics, the fundamentals, that are so important remain.

“He can definitely move the Club forward again. We don’t want to be surviving every season, we want to be more than that because this football club is more than that. Let’s hope we can get Everton back to what it was.

“It won’t be easy and it won’t be overnight but we have to put everything we can into it and be together.”

David Moyes to revive Everton

The mood at Goodison was bleak as Sean Dyche departed, with the Toffees finding themselves one point above the relegation zone at that stage and unsure where they may get their next win.

However, the return of former boss Moyes seems to have lifted spirits on Merseyside, both on and off the pitch.

Although the Scotsman isn’t necessarily known for his attacking style of play, against Tottenham the Blues managed to find more flair when they were going forward and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looked like a new player as he got his third goal of the campaign.

There is plenty of work to be done as the Blues are just four points above the relegation zone after their victory, but the confidence of the players on Sunday certainly seemed like a positive indication of what’s to come.

Furthermore, the Blues captain knows where the club really need to be aiming towards if they can get themselves out of their struggles this term.

Therefore, if Everton can head to a new stadium under Moyes and new ownership as a top-flight club, it will surely be the start of a more positive era.
