Dan Neil transfer: Everton update emerges on Sunderland midfielder
Everton are not interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil, according to Alan Myers.
Myers, posting on X [23 January] in response to a question about whether Everton’s interest in Neil is genuine, claimed that he’s been told “that’s not the case”.
The Toffees had been linked with a move for the Wearsider, but it was believed to be a hard deal to do as Sunderland are unwilling to let their captain leave this window [Graeme Bailey].
Everton need to look into the Championship more often
The Toffees’ links to Neil provided some form of optimism in the sense that Everton are clearly looking in the lower leagues in an attempt to bolster their squad.
While many will not see the worth in this, there is certainly plenty to be had with some of the biggest success stories in the Premier League arriving from that route.
Jarrod Bowen was a Championship player before West Ham snapped him up and there are many players with the potential to replicate a career like that in the second division that Everton need to observe.

Neil is one of them, but with that deal seemingly dead in the water, there are many other shrewd options in the division that could be appealing to David Moyes.
The coming weeks will certainly be interesting from a transfer perspective to see what business Everton are able to get involved in as they look to strengthen their chances of avoiding relegation.
In other Everton news, Moyes has a decision to make on Jesper Lindstrom ahead of their clash with Brighton.
