Everton boost as Tom Cannon transfer finalised
Everton are in line for a cash boost after former player Tom Cannon completed a move from Leicester City to Sheffield United, according to Joe Thomas.
The Liverpool Echo journalist shared the update via X [23 January] after Cannon – also linked with a return to Goodison Park this month [Sami Mokbel] – put pen to paper at Bramall Lane.
Cannon is believed to have joined the Blades for a fee in the region of £10million, meaning a profit of around £2.5m on the fee splashed out to sign the striker from Everton in September 2023.
Thomas wrote: “Former Everton academy striker Tom Cannon has completed his move from Leicester City to Sheffield United.
“Everton will benefit from a sell-on clause in the deal that took him to the King Power.
“Understand it’s a 25 per cent sell-on clause. I ‘think’ that’s of profit Leicester make on the sale, though still chasing absolute confirmation of that.”
Everton profit from Tom Cannon exit at Leicester City
If the sell-on clause is indeed 25 per cent of any profit, then Everton will likely receive around £625,000. That is far from a huge amount, but it is a nice earner all the same.
Some supporters would have liked to have seen Cannon remain at Goodison Park in 2023 after impressing on loan in the Championship, but it was clear his future lied elsewhere.
The Republic of Ireland international scored nine goals in 22 second-tier outing appearances for Stoke City in the first half of the campaign.
That led to Leicester recalling him early in order to then sell to Sheffield United. While it may appear a step down for Cannon, the Blades will likely be a division above Leicester come August.

Everton now have some more money to play with this window if indeed the money is invested back into the squad.
And given the numerous player links as we fast approach the close of the window, that could come in very handy indeed.
