Everton ‘should hijack’ Evan Ferguson transfer amid ‘major’ Brighton exit news

Everton must hijack West Ham United’s move for Brighton star Evan Ferguson.

Kevin Thelwell approached the Seagulls regarding a loan move for the forward on 14 January [Graeme Bailey], with David Moyes eager to freshen up his front line at Goodison Park.

Although Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers admitted he cannot envision the 20-year-old making the switch to Merseyside, the latest updates emerging from the Amex will spark fresh hope.

As per TEAMtalk (21 January), West Ham are pushing forward in their efforts to sign the forward, with a permanent transfer option a “major” part of the negotiations.

With a clear opening to insert themselves into the conversation, Thelwell cannot afford to allow another transfer target to slip through his fingers.

Everton could sign Evan Ferguson under West Ham’s noses

While the amount Brighton wants in a purchase clause has yet to be clarified, their willingness to negotiate presents a golden opportunity for Everton.

The Friedkin Group still needs to clear debt left over from the Farhad Moshiri era before real spending can begin at Goodison Park.

Therefore, the Blues should be able to blow West Ham out of the water, with Graham Potter also suffering from PSR constraints in the capital.

Ferguson has been pushed to the back of the pecking order on the South Coast, with Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck starting over him, despite ex-Liverpool man and current teammate James Milner gushing over his “phenomenal” finishing ability (TNT Sports, 22 January 2024).

The Republic of Ireland international has all the tools to take the Premier League by storm – all he needs is a manager who believes in his ability – step in David Moyes.

With the Blues facing the very real possibility of both Calvert-Lewin and Beto leaving in the winter transfer window, Ferguson would become the leading man overnight on Merseyside.

Thelwell has already dropped the ball in the transfer market this month,- he may not get many more chances to get it right, with TFG showcasing their ruthless streak since taking charge.
