Everton return: ‘Strong possibility’ former Moyes ally agrees new Goodison deal

Everton boss David Moyes could be set to reunite with a former colleague at Goodison Park.

As reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon (19 January), Kevin Thelwell and Dan Purdy could both face the axe at Goodison, with the senior duo’s contracts up at the end of the season.

The Friedkin Group could replace Thelwell and Purdy with Mick Doherty, with the new owners keen to “reshape the operation” on Merseyside.

Doherty was recently part of Atalanta’s attempts to bring Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Italy.

However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has now revealed there is a good chance of Doherty reuniting with Moyes.

“I mentioned previously there was a possibility that Doherty could be returning to Goodison,” King said.

“Whether it will happen, we will have to wait and see. Mick [Doherty] and David [Moyes] have worked together previously. It was only after David left Goodison that Mick left.

“Mick was at West Ham with David too. Therefore, I think there is a strong possibility of him rejoining Everton – I think it would suit him too. He is a very good scout, Mick.”

Mick Doherty to reunite with David Moyes at Everton?

Moyes will be keen to usher in a new era at Everton after years of misery for the Toffees. Therefore, that could include making a host of changes behind the scenes.

And if the Everton manager wants to reunite with Doherty, then the Friedkin Group should listen, especially after what Moyes was speculated to have demanded in contract negotiations.

Moyes and Doherty have plenty of experience working alongside each other.

Therefore, the two reuniting at Goodison could only be a good thing for Everton, with Doherty clearly coming highly recommended if King’s assessment is anything to go by.
