Armando Broja injury: Everton update emerges after win v Brighton

Everton will keep hold of Armando Broja for the rest of the season rather than sending him back to Chelsea, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist posted the news on X (25 January) after a return to Chelsea was mooted in the current transfer window because of his latest injury.

The Albania striker had been expected to return to West London – potentially in place of another Goodison-bound loanee – after picking up an injury which could rule him out for up to 12 weeks.

However, Broja now appears set to remain on Merseyside as he continues his recovery from that ankle injury suffered against Peterborough United, despite David Moyes hinting at sending him back.

Everton draw short straw over Armando Broja transfer

Evertonians may feel like they’re riding the crest of a wave at the moment after back-to-back wins under Moyes, but it’s clear that off the field, they’re not quite up to speed yet.

With even Moyes acknowledging that Broja’s potentially three-month layoff – meaning he might not be fit until the last month of the season – could end his Goodison spell, keeping him is absolutely baffling.

Negotiating such a move with Chelsea has proven to be too difficult, despite Broja contractually being their player and hardly making a splash at Goodison, having missed the first three months of his loan.

Expected to be Sean Dyche’s answer to the questions posed over Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Broja’s failure to get fit and lack of any impact could see his name etched into the book of ‘worst Everton signings”.

Freeing up a loan spot, potentially to be filled by another Chelsea player, would have provided a massive reprieve before 3 February, but instead, Broja will remain a millstone on the club’s transfer possibilities.
